Gudetama Burger (Serves 1)

Ingredients:

1 burger bun

1 leaf lettuce

2 slices tomato

1 slice red onion

1 slice cheese

1 burger patty, cooked

1 egg

1-2” square sheet of nori

2 tsp cooking oil

Equipment:

Small bowl

1 Tbsp measure

Frying pan

Spatula

Paring knife

Fine point scissors

Utility knife

Cooking tweezers

Serving dish

Printable of Gudetama’s face, sized so that there is about 1” between Gudetama’s eyes

Directions:

  1. Crack the egg into a small bowl. Coat the frying pan with 1 tsp of oil, then place over low-medium heat. Without breaking the yolk, spoon out 1 Tbsp of the egg white from the bowl onto the hot pan. Cook the egg white in a very thin layer until it turns white, then promptly remove from the pan with a spatula and allow to cool. Set aside.

2. Using the printable as a guide, cut out the shape of Gudetama’s eyes and mouth from the sheet of nori. Layer the printable on top of the nori to use it as a guide for cutting. Use a utility knife to cut out an opening at the center of Gudetama’s mouth. Set aside.

3. Find a spot where the egg white has cooked out in a thin, even layer. Using the same printable as a guide, use a paring knife to cut the piece of egg white to the size of Gudetama’s mouth. Set this cut-out of egg white aside.

4. Start plating the burger by placing the bottom bun on a serving dish, followed by the lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheese slice & burger patty. Place the top bun off to the side.

5. Coat the frying pan with 1 tsp of oil, then place over medium-high heat. Pour the remaining egg (yolk & white) onto the hot pan, then turn the heat to low and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the whites turn opaque.

6. Use a spatula to promptly transfer the egg atop the burger. Place the egg white piece atop the yolk as Gudetama’s mouth. Using cooking tweezers, lay the nori mouth cut-out from Step #2 atop the egg white piece to create the look of Gudetama’s open mouth (with a white center). Finally, also use cooking tweezers to place Gudetama’s eyes atop the yolk.

7. Serve the burger immediately with your favorite sides and condiments. Your work is done! This adorably lazy Gudetama Burger is ready to enjoy!
