Hello Friend! Introduce yourself and tell us what you do for Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures.
I’m Matt Wayne, cartoon writer and avid cartoon viewer. One of the lucky dreamers who get to play in the Hello Kitty sandbox.
When did you first hear about Sanrio?
I knew who Hello Kitty was long before I knew what Sanrio was. I moved a half mile from Sanrio’s California offices when I was younger and saw the logo every day for a couple of years but didn’t make the connection until a buddy told me it was the company of Hello Kitty and her friends.
What Hello Kitty and Friends character is your favorite, or do you relate with the most from the series?
Kuromi is my idol! She’s very sweet, but always has a little edge, a little grit.  I based Kuromi’s Bad Day on how I am in the morning. I also like Tuxedo Sam. He’s jaunty and irrepressible.
When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
In third grade, we had to write and illustrate our own stories every week and include all the new vocabulary words and I loved it. My friend and I had a great time coming up with stuff to make each other laugh. I began to suspect then that I was creative and maybe even good with words. I’m still suspicious.
Other than “All Thumbs” for season 2 (airing today!), what other script did you write for Season 1?
For season 1, I wrote “The Perfect Gift” and “Kuromi’s Bad Day”.
